SUNTOUCHER- SOLAR POWER AIRCRAFT CONCEPT

The 'Suntoucher' is a two-seater aircraft concept which has the capability of flying for several hundred miles without fule. Developes by Samuel Nicz, Suntoucher it uses solar energy collected from the photovoltaic cells installed across its large wingspan of 70m to power its AC engine,Which is placed in the middles of the glider's fuselage. The lightweight construction is designed to be environmentally friendly, and economically fly over long distances, at an average speed of 100km/h. This concept looks into the distance future, when a world will be independent of the oil resources.

Pilot by Bertrend picccard, the first leg of the 2013 across America mission was concluded successfully by solar powered aircraft on Saturday may 4th. Kicking off the 'clean generation; imitative  the airplane safely landed from San Francisco to Phoenix  as it will cross the continental United States in five stopovers with hopes of raising awareness about the potential of clean technologies.

Solar impulse is an innovative project leveraging technological powers and the spirit of adventure by means of an airplane.Launches in 2003, it completes the world's first solar 26 hour day and night flight in 2010. In 2011 Solar impulse flew to Brussels (Belgium) and Paris (France) and in 2012, the HB-SIA prototype completed the first intercontinental flight connecting Europe to Africa.

The project's ultimate goal is to fly around the world scheduled for 2015 and with the second generation aircraft currently under construction, HB-SIB.
